Labels for Royal wedding

When Prince William and Kate Middleton exchange "I do's" on Friday, most Edmontonians will be trying not to yawn. The "wedding of the century" will be broadcast live in the wee hours on CTV, which begins seven hours of royal wedding coverage at 1 a.m.

For the men, that's dark suits, preferably adorned with military medals. Rumour has it the Prince, an officer, will tie the knot in uniform.

The ladies, meanwhile, will want to wear a classic, conservative dress paired with one of the glamorous hats blue-blooded women are famous for.

Bangers and mash might be a little too heavy for 4 a.m., so try serving English muffins and breakfast scones for a refined start.

Wedding or no wedding, British high tea-style light bites are an increasingly popular hors d'oeuvre choice, says Marianne Brown of local catering company The Butler Did It.

"Really beautiful little tea sandwiches and lovely desserts and nice crudités -that's really, really been a big thing," says Brown, who likes to serve finger sandwiches layered with slices of cucumber, mint, fresh dill and cream cheese.

Another noble option, says Brown, is to head to Duchess Bake Shoppe for a box of macarons. "Even though they're not British, I like to give out the macarons because they're very dainty-looking and they're pretty.

For those not interested in alcohol first thing in the morning, tea -English Breakfast, Earl Grey, take your pick -is a solid choice.

Or make the best of both worlds and brew up some blueberry tea: Mix one cup of brewed Earl Grey tea with 1/2 ounce each of Grand Marnier and Amaretto. Add sugar to taste -and long live the Queen!
