Michelle Obama dropped a broad hint that she would like to have attended the wedding, but courtiers at Buckingham Palace were not minded to issue her with an invitation.
The lucky ones who are attending include a former lieutenant-governor of Ontario and her billionaire husband - Hilary and Galen Weston - who'll be joining the likes of soccer superstar David Beckham and the actor who played Mr. Bean, according to an official list of confirmed guests unveiled Saturday.
Hilary Weston was the lieutenant-governor of Ontario from 1997 to 2002. Her husband Galen is the chairman and president of George Weston Ltd., and No. 133 on this year's list of Forbes magazine's top billionaires.
He is also reportedly a close friend of Prince Charles.
Rowan Atkinson, the renowned British actor best known to many on this side of the Pond as the silent bumbler Mr. Bean, will be there, as will Madonna's former husband and film director Guy Ritchie, along with Beckham and his wife, former Spice Girl Victoria.
Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, have something in common: they will not be among the 1,900 guests attending Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding at Westminster Abbey on Friday.
The former was not invited, and the latter was, but had second thoughts when his invitation prompted much negative comment after he had ruthlessly suppressed protests from pro-democracy campaigners in his kingdom.
